The runway/taxiway definition file defines if the surface type is
asphalt or concrete.  If the file has the wrong surface type, I urge
you to send corrections to Robin Peel so they can get fixed in the
next scenery build.

There is some (probably not quite smart enough) heuristics to try to
determine if the taxiway is a "taxiway" or a "hardstand" as you call
it.  The runway/taxiway definition file doesn't differentiate these
for us.
