There is an idea being discussed by some that involves a bit of a change
with the directory structure. The Engine/ directory in the base package has
been used by JSBSim as a storage place for engine configuration files. This
allows for aircraft to reuse engines from this one spot. However, the actual
value of having that single directory for engines is not being realized.
There simply aren't many aircraft that we model (or are likely to model)
that use the same engine. Also, the files are miniscule. If an additional
search path was added for a location in which to look for engine definition
files - say, in the aircraft directory - then that might allow tar files to
be made pretty much plug-n-play. All the relevant aircraft files (including
3D models and instrument panels ??) could be tarred up and hosted on the
JSBSim web site (for JSBSim aircraft, which are the ones in question at the
moment).

Are there any good reasons NOT to do this?
