like a good value anyway. Would this make engines appear to "start" too quickly?

There should be a time delay. Pilots talk about starting "on the second blade" or "on the third blade" for an engine that starts well. A cold engine, an engine with a weak battery, an engine with aluminum wiring, an inexperienced pilot, etc. can make the starting last much longer, possibly five to ten seconds. During that entire time, the prop is spinning at a constant, slow speed until the engine fires. Spinning up to, say, 45 RPM and then starting the engine instantly would not be very realistic, either.

Depending on the engine, some of the cylinders might not fire at first -- that can make the engine run rough for a few seconds before they all catch.

All the best,

David
