Well, nobody prevents you from carrying ".btg"-files to any user who
does _not_ ask for it ....
FlightGear developers do a pretty good job at offering a portable,
OpenSource flight simulator to everyone who's interested, but the
minimum of what I (I don't count me as a FG developer) expect from a
user is to spend a minimum of effort simply by reading the relevant
publications.

Do you call downloading this chunk from here, another chunk from there
and the third chunk from somwhere else as "in the box" ? This is
reality I've observed at a couple of MSFS users' sites.

You should have read my posting: I said that ".btg"-files are not
supposed to make it into the standard scenery. Do you find any ".btg"-
files in the Objects-section of the scenery ? I don't. These are
Terrain files and the terrain of SFO area actually _is_ the default
terrain. The contributor is heartily invited to share the scenery
objects with us and we'll make sure they'll get it into the next
scenery if we'll recieve these files soon. But this does not count for
terrain files.

Because you didn't read the whole posting.
Cheers,
Martin.
