This is the native model Format of Quake2. The model file holds the 3d
Model and multiple morphing animations. There are exporters for Blender
available. 
It is, as far as I know, used by some free projects like cube and
crystalspace.  

Using this format could be useful for irregular and morphing animatins
like waves on the sea, groundcrew, passengers...
