Exactly the same way I did for testing your model - search and replace on all the files - "rpl" makes this very easy. Loading the old pylon model into blender (it was originally developed in ac3d) shows lots of seperate objects. Joining the objects together and removing duplicate nodes results in a significant saving in file size and complexity. I still intend building a new pylon model. The existing one isn't a great starting point, because even after the optimisations described above the geometry is still a bit strange. A clean model built in blender should give major improvements (the existing pylon is just *ugly*).
