I'd love to see a couple people pull lead on this and start organizing a
variety of regular events at different times and places. I like funfly
contests like this morning where some skill and competition and good natured
ribbing is involved, but no one can practice so the playing field is more
level. I also think group flys would be great fun ... congregate somewhere
and do something ... an interesting route, an interesting challenge, etc.
You would get a lot more flying and less sitting around watching. It would
also be fun to have semi-serious aerobatic competitions. And I'm sure there
are other fun things we could do too. I think there may be a group or two
dabbling in virtual airlines. Sometimes it's nice to be able to fly on your
own time or schedule too, but be participating in something larger.

The FlightGear multiplayer system gives us a tremendous opportunity to have
a lot of fun. We can use group fly ins to highlight certain scenery areas
that deserve attention, or highlight specific aircraft models that people
may not have noticed yet.

A sailplane/soaring competition would be another fun one. Maybe we sign up
a couple tow operators who stay busy towing people up, and then see who can
stay aloft the longest.

Another angle that could be fun is to come up with some team competitions.

How about a sky diving competition? If we can do aero towing, can we attach
MP skydivers to a jump plane. Then individuals can choose when to jump out
and the person that gets closest to the target wins? We'd probably need an
improved parachuter model ... might be a fun project for someone ...

Regards,

Curt.
