It's quite possible, if not probable, that you'll see some larger 
debris before long - shipping containers.

I understand that quite a few of these are lost from container ships 
in rough weather each year and those that don't sink immediately 
can end up floating around the oceans for quite some time and 
present a serious risk to shipping.

These are especially dangerous to smaller vessels as they're nearly 
completely submerged, with just their tops awash, making them very 
difficult to spot without radar, in spite of their size.

Because they're hardly affected by wind the greatest factor in where 
they go, in the open ocean, are the same currents that are carrying 
the bits of plastic and fishing nets that you're seeing, so I'd be 
a bit surprised if there aren't a few in the convergence zone.
