It's an interesting question, and one that may not have a concrete answer. There will eventually be improvements to one or the other atmosphere. Both need to be selectable. IMHO (and despite comments to the contrary), it's not obvious that the FlightGear atmosphere should absolutely be the default. What is obvious is that whichever atmosphere is used, it should be transparent to the user. That is, the end results should be as expected. That calls for a specification of what is settable from the user interface, and what the expected result is.
