..when moving off-topic, please change the subject line to help us
all sort out what (sub)-thread belongs where. This one sub-thread
expands a wee bit on a few things that I'd like to put in a GPL guide
for ex-MSFS etc people unfamiliar with the GPL way of copyright law
enforcement.

text(s)?

..yes, to me and I gather to the FG developers too, protection
of FG copyright under the GPL will remain the very top priority.
This means code, patches, models etc with questionable copyright
or patent or trademark "issues", must be rejected, regardless of
what nice new features it might offer.

..brutal, yes, but not nearly as brutally expensive as being on
the receiving end of a copyright infringement verdict and going
to jail.

..3'rd party models etc "which works with FG too" for any 4'th party
end user are ok, as whether or not it "works with FG too" is irrelevant
to FG copyright and the GPL, the GPL only concerns distribution or
conveyance of copyrighted work between legal persons, by licensing
what is otherwise forbidden by copyright law.

..if such 3'rd party secret model author group or such 4'th party
end user never distributes FG or any other copyrighted work bundled
or not with their own work, only their own work, e.g. screen shots
of their own models in FG, then they are in full compliance with
copyright law, by not distributing, and therefore they need no
irrelevant GPL etc license.

..their own work, e.g. screen shots of their own models in FG,
they are entitled to license and sell etc under whatever license
and contracts they damn please.

..problems only rears up when you try bundle FG with "proprietary
licensed" or otherwise incompatible-to-the-GPL licenses.

..usage, money and profits are irrelevant to the GPL. Also when you're
Kim Jong-il and wanna steer your nukes into carrier decks with FG.

..what group? Weird secrecy replacing common courtesy
isn't really helpful in building trust around here.

..and we need a certain minimum amount of trust, to
look at other peoples code without fear of allegations
of stealing code and copyright litigation.
Me, I have lost that trust in Ian and his secret group.

..nor is astro-turf style trolling. Until I learn I am
wrong about my own suspicion of Ian, I recommend keeping
the kind of distance, I keep to Microsoft. ;o)

..to ward off any potential litigation, I hereby paste my own wget
(download) action of Ian's "lwo BorgBoxes.zip", and my listing and
md5sum'ing of said file, to put into the public record.

..I was lead to believe I was allowed to do the above to help Ian
and his secret group find a way to make his|their lwo fileformat
useful to FG and wise versa and to finally contribute more than
words to FG, Ian's "lwo BorgBoxes.zip" could have used a README,
and I hoped to convince Ian and his group to help me sell FG into
upgrading our license from GPLv2 to GPLv3.

..it would be good if Ian or his group would confirm we (FG)
indeed were allowed to try help out as above, by downloading
Ian's "lwo BorgBoxes.zip" to take a look at it and to try make
it work with FG.

..I hereby confirm I no longer have any intention to touch Ian's
"lwo BorgBoxes.zip" and will keep my copy available for copyright
law enforcement pursuant to any court orders and for no other
purpose. My paste:
