you don't even have to be in the air. just try "driving" down the
runway and the simulation will freeze as soon as you pass the cross
runway. the only way you won't crash is if you take off early enough
and be high enough when you get to this point. it's probably some bug
in the tile intersection code (which i see often enough when i fly
close to the ground < 100').
