Other applications don't count. What the OS reports for that joystick is what matters. First plug the js out and see if fgfs still pulls to left. If not, then it's proved to be a joystick problem. Run jstest $ jstest /dev/input/js0 and see what it reports for the axis 0. The closer to zero, the better.
