If there's an F16-specific autopilot for flightgear, could you

The work I am involved in requires a JSBSim aircraft like the
F16. Unfortunately, YaSim doesn't provide the parameters
required, although there is a YaSim aircraft (YF-23) that does
have dedicated autopilot.

What are the problems you are having with the generic autopilot?

There is nothing FDM-specific in the autopilot code. The intent
is that it is a configurable engine for aircraft-specific
versions like the YF-23. Have you tried simply using the YF-23
autopilot as-is on the F-16?

Or, for that matter, what are your requirements from YASim? I
could see about hooking you up with specific outputs if they are
available.

Hi Andy,

I wasn't aware that the autopilot used with the YF-23 could be
used with the F16. I'll give this a try and see how it goes.

The generic autopilot allows the F16 to go unstable very easily, for example
I set the altitude-hold for 5000 ft while its at 3000, and I get a pitch
oscillation which leads to an aircraft crash.
Extreme movements like a +30 degree pitch hold for a few seconds followed
by an altitude-hold will also result in pitch oscillation. The autopilot seems to be too sensitive an doesn't have proper damping... as I have had suggested to
me, ie. I have little knowledge in control theory.

There are some internal properties that I need retrieved from JSBSim
which I couldn't find in YaSim. These are (looking in the 'internal properties)...

/fdm/jsbsim/atmosphere/rho-slugs_ft3
/fdm/jsbsim/velocities/vt-fps
/fdm/jsbsim/position/h-sl-ft
/fdm/jsbsim/atmosphere/T-sl-R
/fdm/jsbsim/atmosphere/T-R
/fdm/jsbsim/atmosphere/P-psf

Overall, JSBSim seems to give more data than YaSim, but I'm happy
to be corrected on this point.

Michael.
