Hi guys,
I placed Nimitz (v098a) in my local harbour (Wellington, New Zealand)
at -41.246433 LAT, 174.886783 LONG, heading 198. The took off from
NZWN on runway 34.
Very enjoyable flight except the deck of the Nimitz under FGv098a
doesn't seem solid. Was only using the Cessna 172P does this make a
difference?
encourage you to try this scenario... see a bit of New Zealand too...LOL.
Cheers
Dene
Hi Dene,
I always liked to fly "other countries" and scenarios and you made me
curious so that I'll download the terrain and try a flight within the
next days. But it will me much more "thrilling" sometime in the future
when we have more possibilities to change the terrain, the
terrain-textures and have more user-made objects.
This is my motivation to spend a lot of time every day in help for
people starting with FlightGear like you and me as I hope that with a
growing number of users we will have more "user development" -> more
3d-objects -> more sceneries of special countries and interesting areas
of the world to fly! :-)
Now back to your problems with FG 0.9.9 I noticed when reading your eMails
I divide it into two groups
a) a serious problem ("texture related problem") which might be realated
to the bad interaction of some hardware and the actual code - I can't
offer any usable help
b) problems related to a bad setup of FlightGear or problems related to
some features of actual FG which might not work on your PC but can be
influenced by a better setup when starting FG - some help might work as
is my actual experience with users who mailed privately to me or from
the German Forum of FG
What can we do?
I would like to try starting up your FlightGear V0.9.9 with
FlightGearTools as we can send *any* allowed parameter to FlightGear. My
actual development version is 1.3.5 and you may download it from my webside
http://home.arcor.de/vollnhals-bremen/Martin/FGToolsInstall135.zip
As it is no official release (but though used without noticable problems
by serveral people who asked for it) I am *very* behind with the
documentation - it is still for version 1.1 which had only a small
subset of functions.
But I think you will understand the GUI on first look as it is "Windows
look and feel".
Please place it into a seperate folder as it will create a lot of small
textfiles where your inputs of the many fields are saved. This may
change in the official version but not we have to live with that. Make a
shortcut and place it on your desktop.
There are 4 pages:
main: - select which page will show up as default when firing FGTools
the next time
Atlas ... FGWizard: Page for running Map!!!, Atlas under WinGUI and
starting FlightGearWizard and Atlas on one click (if you want to start
FlightGear from the Wizard *and* run FlightGear with Atlas)
Cygwin: start FlightGear CVS under Cygwin from Windows GUI and have all
the possibilities of the next "windows" page
Windows: start FlightGear with commands from Windows GUI, have several
input-fields with "remember last" functionality,
have a selectable list of all installed aircraft, have a help-window
with all actual valid startparameter of FlightGear, have the possibility
to start FlightGear and Atlas simultaneously from this GUI, get a window
on demand where you can see all parameter FlightGearTool is sending to
FlightGear when starting (check "info" right bottom).
Please start getting to the windows page, set the path to your FG 0.9.9
main-folder (*not* FG_root which means the "data" folder), then check
"info" and start FlightGear. Make a screenshot of the info-output-window
which you can mail me if there are problems.
If FlighGear does not start, copy the output of the "FlightGear-DOS"
window into a textfile and send it to me.
Right next to the button "Start FlightGear (W32)" is a field with
"basic" parameter, you will find something like
--fg-scenery=C:\cygwin\fg-cvs\data\scenery
--fg-root=H:\FlightGear99\data --enable-fullscreen --bpp=24
--prop:sim/current-gui=1
and may reduce it to something like
--fg-scenery=C:\cygwin\fg-cvs\data\scenery --fg-root=H:\FlightGear99\data
(only links to your scenery-folder and to the FG_root folder).
This is the first step, please give feedback. You might be motivated as
V0.9.9 is a big step forward, not only with the Nimitz scenario.
But due to the different time-zones and my work (shifts) there will
possibly a remarkable delay until I can answer.
All the best!
Regards
Georg
