Yes, it was considered very "space-age" when it was first announced to the 
public in late 1945.   It turned obsolete as soon as the German advances in 
high speed aerodynamics became known outside of Germany.

There are other FG aircraft with this I think.  I must admit I've only tried 
about half of the aircraft in CVS, so I can't say for sure.

Right now there are no consequences for exceeding limits, but there has been 
talk of adding this to the next version of JSBSim.  The plan is to allow 
different actions to be specified by the user/builder for each type of 
exceedance.  For instance, you will be able to configure a gear speed limit 
monitor that will print a message, "Hey Dummy! The gear speed limit is 250 
knots!  You just lost your gear doors.", if you exceed that limit.  You could 
also define other types of consequences, like a crash signal, or a change in 
the FDM behavior.  Until then we are monitoring ourselves :)

The hard part will be in finding out what the limits are, especially for old 
aircraft that aren't flying any more.
