You can put the properties pretty much anywhere you like... as you can see I 
had to use a few properties to make sure that (1) the chute deployment handle 
and jettison buttons were animated correctly and that (2) the various 
deployment and jettison actions happened under the right conditions (speed, 
voltage etc).  I'm sure it could be done more cleanly especially now we have 
property listeners to use.

I like sticking that sort of stuff under sim/model these days because that way 
I know that I'm not inadvertantly messing with any pre-defined properties 
(and that other things won't mess with mine.)

Feel free - although I'd be pleased to see someone do a better one which I

Later marks of Lightning had a hook for the same purpose over here.

Unfortunately I can't try the flight model since I've long since stopped 
keeping a working copy of the last release around - fdm=ufo is not much 
fun :-)
