Hi,
I have started using CVS build, and will update regularly.
I also want to use Objects from the Jon Stockill FGFSDB database.
But I have a few questions:
1. FGFSDB download instructions recommends to unpack SharedModels.tgz in FGROOT.
I start FG with --fg-root=<my CVS install directory>. In it, there is
data/Scenery/Objects"
which is where I would expect to unpack this file. Am I right?
2. Would not unpacking under FGROOT put these files at risk of being wiped out
during CVS updates?
3. I have my FG_SCENERY=<myOwnAdditions>:<distributionScenery>:<worldScenery>.
MyOwnAdditions
is for now only Objects; distributionScenery is what comes with FG
download/CVS update;
worldScenery is a number of 10x10 chunks I downloaded from FG Scenery
download site.
I think, with this configuration, the best place to unpack FGFSDB
SharedModels.tgz is
myOwnAdditions. Do you see a problem with this?
4. Finally, I am planning to improve the scenery of a few places I love to fly
around by adding some
objects. I surely will build a few myself. However to help expedite this
effort, I can see another way too:
I saw a number of STATIC objects in FGFSDB, that can be modified in minor
ways, or reused
elsewhere by some re-scaling/coloring etc only. Is this allowed? Do I need
to get permissions from the
authors? If so, is posting here a request the best way?
Thanks for listening.
