Yes, you can get better-resolution scenery that route.  For instance,
you could use SRTM1 data with no downsampling.  You can also try using
VMAP1 instead of VMAP0 for land use/roads/railroads/rivers.  There are
a number of things you can do.  Be aware that you may be surprised by
the hit in fps you take; but that's no reason not to experiment and
see what you get.

The person who put it there gave it the wrong title.  Only a small
fraction of it is about *building* terragear; the majority is made
up of addenda/clarifications/mistake-fixes for the existing docs on
*using* Terragear.
