for "irish-looking" men using public trash cans to be detained and
questioned?

The world is complicated, but every innocent person has a right to
live in our society free of suspicion.  And yes, that means some of us
are willing to trade a little security for that guarantee.  Sane
people know that were vastly more likely to die from a car crash than
a car bomb anyway.

And yes, this is politics.  But that attitude is precicely the aspect
of todays society that we're (hopefully) going to find so embarassing
in the decades to come.  Yeah, we talk the talk, but when push came to
shove we paniced and turned into the ethnocentric morons the rest of
the world always thought we were...

Obviously no further debate will be forthcoming from me.  But it had
to be said.
