I just saw in NASA Tech Briefs they are working on a "hybrid terrian
database" that sounds
VERY much like our terrain database. They had a picture of an approach
to the Reno-Tahoe
airport that looked an AWFUL lot like our texture map technology. The
tech briefs article
was not specifically about a simulator, but the creation of the database
as part of a
visual scene system. They seem to indicate it is part of a synthetic
vision system for
use in aircraft during bad visibility. The work is being done at
NASA's Langley research center.
The article was on page 81 of the October 2006 Tech briefs magazine.
You are supposed to
be able to see the "Technical Support Package" at www.techbriefs.com/tsp
under OCT-2006,
then information sciences, then "hybrid terrain database". The TSP
number is LAR16898.
