I'd rather do something positive, or help someone, and maybe (hopefully) never get any public recognition, but in the long term, you know you are making the world a bit of a better place at least for a few people. And you never know what big cascading effect some small positive action can have. What looks like no big deal to one person can be a huge deal for the person on the receiving end.
When I'm long gone, I'd much prefer that there is still some cascading positive ripple from my life going forward, versus having some physical star that people can step on and spit on. Of course if I did have a star out in Hollywood, then people would have a place to assemble the flower arrangements. :-)
