i had some interesting experiences with flightgear's multiplayer. howerver
this was using 0.9.1
two computers networked with gibabit lan with a third acting as the
fg-server, both identical computers with 3gig processors using UFO's. The
lag between the computers wes incredible, i got to a state where i could
follow the other ufo but the actions were 1 minute behind, as if I had
travelled back in time and was watching what happened 1 minute ago. it was
weird.
as i said it was 0.9.10 so it could have just been that.
i have installed the cvs head on one pc, if all goes well i will contunue to
update the rest.
one problem I have had with the online server is that I cannot contact it
from within the walls on my university. I contacted the local IT Support
guys to specifically ask to unblock port 5000 which they said they did.
the other issue is that I am behind a router. so all local IP's are behind a
NAT. but that shouldn't be a problem right?
I have already tried setting the incoming port to 5000 with the local ip
192.168.0.101 . Then set the outgoing to be mpserver02.flightgear.org,5000,
then forwarded port 5000 to 192.168.0.101 in the router, but it doesn't
join.
can someone explain what I need to do to get it working so I cna check what
i need to have done, for multiple PC's behind a NAT i assume i have to
forward port 5000, 5001, 5002 etc to pc1 pc2 pc3, etc and set the IN port in
the .fgfsrc file to resemble this config.
Is there something I have missed or is it more probable that the UNI is
still blocking me? i can connect to another LAN pc that is running a copy
of fg_server, so it does seem to be a firewall or routing issue.
Cheers
Phil

By the way..
Am I correct in saying that the "animation" parts that need to be fixed
in this case are only the xml bits between the <animation></animation>
tags ?
I was trying to fix up the p51d and I went and removed _all_ the leading
slashes I could find.. heh.. well the plane didn't want to take off
anymore so I guess that's not right..
But removing just the leading slashes I found in between the
<animation></animation> tags seems to work OK..
Sorry if this is a "noobish" question.. :o
I've never tried to build my own FG aircraft so I really know squat
about it..
