Not having an account at the Wiki I can't ATM, but I'll investigate the possibility. Incidentally, the "out of date" is that OSG has _moved_ to SVN, and the Wiki has a quote saying "CVS will not be updated any more. Don't use it." Which is why I asked: Shouldn't the CVS instructions just plain be removed? > > Question 2: Is is still a good idea to use the SVN checkout, or is a > > release sufficient for the latest-and-greatest CVS of FG? > > Many people seem to track OSG SVN and I think the main FlightGear OSG > developer mentioned he is using OSG SVN in an e-mail to the devel list > recently. > > If your main interest is flying rather than developing you could also > consider using the PLIB branch of FG CVS which supports some eye candy > not yet ported to OSG. You'll find the build instructions in the wiki. Main interest flying, but I'm both impatient to see changes happen, and... No, that's about it really. (Actually, I originally moved to CVS because I had dial-up and wanted to spread out the upgrades, not all-at-once mega downloads). I was using the PLIB branches of both Simgear and Flightgear, but decided to take the plunge into OSG, using the pre-2.0 version available in Debian Testing (no, I can't keep track of Debian version names). As OSG is not needed by anything else I run, I may experiment with the CVS version. Initial impressions: No visual changes, but then I wasn't cranking up the eyecandy anyway. Some planes (notably Sopwith Camel) no longer suffer from unusual, intermittent FPS drops from ~25 to ~5. So that's good, and reason enough to use the OSG version instead of the PLIB version. I have also had, when using PLIB, DLIST error messages in the console, which is both related to PLIB and, according to one discussion I found by Googling, shouldn't be happening with FG anyway.
