Oops - it was the joystick.  Didn't notice but once I got FlightGear 
recognizing 
it and loading the right interface(XML) the throttle started working like it 
should.  Appears I have to hit the something on the joystick to get things 
started but once flightgear opens and I see the runway if I hit the trigger on 
the joystick (which is the brake on the Cyborg EVO config) the throttle drops 
to 
a normal idle as it should and I sit quietly on the end of the runway until I 
accelerate.

Super.  Loving this more all the time.
