OK that sounds like a reasonable explanation that fits my description of the
problem well. Is there any chance that a fix for this will be in the next
release?
How much of a hit is there when changing zfar? (Assuming it can be done
dynamically). Would it be possible to tie it to the visibility?
Jon
Well, the zfar should still be a bit away from the visibility range. At
max visibility range the horizon is white (or the fog color) but we can
still see a few things. If zfar is set too near then we will see the end
of the world :p
But perhaps that steting zfar to visibility + a few kilometers should be
enought. Anyway we allways have the possibility to increase the
visibility range if in doubt. On the performance side having a smaller
zfar can (perhaps) increase the fps because today we can be drawing
triangles that are 30 km away even when we only have a 16km visibility.
