I really appreciate the detailed analysis and investigation you have done
here, but I wonder if there is something more or different going on here.
Until very recently (when my work laptop died) I was happily running
FlightGear in 16 bpp mode on a 32Mb original GeForce Go card with old/legacy
drivers ... this was a Dell Latitude C840. The laptop was 2001/2002
vintage. The laptop is dead so I can't confirm with the latest cvs, but up
until about two months ago, it actually ran current OSG FlightGear
surprisingly well for how old and underpowered the machine was.
Again, you've clearly done your homework and checked a lot of angles, but I
wonder if there might really be something else going on that is causing your
slow frame rates?
