I have been telling Donn exactly that for ages.
Many millions from IBM down to our 82 year old Stanley are happily 
running openSUSE without any of the horrors he sees, yet he thinks the 
distro put out by idiots is as buggy as hell, is missing stuff that's 
already there and he can't be convinced otherwise, hard as you may try.

So, if you did a package by package comparison between his box and my 
currently running 3 boxes or yours you'll find lots of core packages 
that are not from openSUSE but are built from sources he downloaded from 
the internet and created himself with checkinstall.

He insists on mixing 11.4 and 11.4 updates repos with factory - unclean 
and headed for disaster.
To put it bluntly, he doesn't trust the distro one bit and does his own 
re-engineering of it. The problems are his own.
