I did not introduce this change. Was it Manolo when he was working on
compositing?

The new behavior is standard on OS X, although the dead key gets a yellow
marker under it. It's nice and resembles what a typewrite does: type the
character, but don't move the carriage.

I am glad we have it on OS X. It's neat for typing Umlauts on my US
keyboard, and it's a huge improvement when typing Korean.

I would give it a +1, but since I rarely use MSWindows these days, I am
voting 0 here, as long as we keep the behavior in OS X and X11 (do we have
it in X11? I don't remember).
