Oh, yes, I do remember now (getting old sucks). Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I usually do everything with VC6, so I will "down"-upgrade this project to VC6 as well (if possible - they use some #define magic), or really just go the Cygwin route ad be happy about twice the performance of the resulting app (among all the other improvements like stand-alone apps)... .
