Yes, but that requires a VNC client -- so that's a "whole desktop"  
solution as opposed to "specific app" solution like in X. In my  
experience, in  a user interactive task, response is faster for a  
remote X11 app as opposed to a native app inside a remote desktop  
through VNC. Also, I really don't need access to the whole desktop --  
just need to display specific apps intermittently. I'll give VNC a  
try, maybe things have improved since the last time I checked.

Meanwhile, I'll try building FLTK with X11 -- got some help from some  
old postings to this list.
