Desktop font systems are intended for display use, and don't really go that big. Why do you want such large characters? If it is for making posters or something, perhaps a drawing package may be the way to go, some of them support scaling of font characters to large sizes. Or it may be possible to scale characters using AGG or Cairo or something. What platform are you on?
