All my text editors and most of the things, that are ment to present
text also use white text backgrounds. Not light-coloured backgrounds are
older style, because using old monitors bright white was glaring. But I
continue to think, the colour is no problem.

I agree to this, and also think, there is no fundamental redesign
necessary. I only think, the start page should change and feel confirmed
by the examples: Most of them start with an apparently to see "What is
****" and as I wrote before (*g*), the introduction of FLTK page is not
very apparently - it is besides and looks a little like advertisement
and before the info text there are some links, which seem to be
"special"("Developer Roadmap" is nothing one would mind to start a basic
introduction).
My suggestion is, to enlarge the Quick Info (I gave an example -
important points like hints to FLTK branches are missing) and place it
above "Recent Articles". That would match placement of most examples.
The box "Quick Info" could be used for the most common links - it's
working already this way because of starting with "Stable Release".
Regarding to this changes:

Yes, because introduction is apparently.

He should find the documentation easily (maybe also inside "Quick Info
box"), because experienced people are interested to make decisions by
informations. But the page gives direct access to "Documentation" - no
need to search for, it is obvious to see.

Experienced FLTK users should know the page and can save often used
links to the browser. But as written above also the start page gives
direct access to the common themes - this "tabulator structure" is easy
to use.

Oh, oh, if not interested in GUIs, she shouldn't do this. ;o)
To me "Dora" is the addition of "Adam" and "Brad".
