Hello All, When referencing FLUID in my previous posts, I neglected to say anything constructive. I apologize for that. I believe that it is important to include something constructive when commenting on the general usefulness of anything. I have included some thoughts on this below.
I would think one of the issues with FLUID is that it isn't very user friendly. I know that is just an opinion, but that was my first impression and that of several others. I think Greg's video does an excellent job of illustrating what I'm talking about. It just needs to be a little more comfortable. To me, when using a tool like this, you shouldn't need or want to switch back to the command line. It's kind of an all or nothing proposition for me. Duncan: > FLUID can be a bit quirky, but it is a very powerful tool. It will > never be a full environment like Visual Studio, Kdevelop or Eclipse I actually think an ide environment is exactly what it needs. It also seems like a lot of the needed function is already there. It just needs a nice editor and a slightly smarter code generator (to preserve user edits etc.). The example I would give would be Borland C++ Builder. While I have many, many issues with that product, the basic concept is awesome. It can be a very productive environment. Especially for those who are fairly new to C++ and gui development. When I visualize FLTK development in that particular type of evironment(with FLTK performance), even I (a hard core command line guy) could get exited about the possibilities. I also think it would generate some additional interest in the FLTK project overall. While were on the topic of gui development tools, I also think that a theme or skin creation utility is extremely useful. Unfortunately, in the world today, people seem to much more interested in what the box looks like than what's inside. I have seen this first hand in the software business many times. When making software purchasing decisions, I have seen people consistently choose apps that are more expensive and have less functionality, if they have a snazzy interface. I guess what I'm suggesting, is that support for this should be a fairly high priority. Just my .02 Thanks, Gerry _______________________________________________ fltk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.easysw.com/mailman/listinfo/fltk
