Note, to completely (and properly) uninstall gears, you must

   sudo /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Gears.plugin/Contents/Resources/
uninstall.command

Otherwise the google updater will just add it back, and the input
manager will still be present.

PS - this worked for me - was getting the huge system.log. Used the
above uninstaller, and no problems anymore.
