I also have this issue and I don't have Google Gears installed (I had once, but I uninstalled and I don't have those files on my system).
Although I have installed: - 1Password - Google Talk Plugin - SIMBL - Inquisitor (it's not used since I'm running Safari 4 public beta, and I don't think this may be the issue) I only have SSBs for Google apps, and this occurs in every app once it's hidden.
