The Place book is a nice idea Ann.
>and then published by burning a CD and or in paper?<
I think a website is the way to go on this because publishing full colour
photos on paper is hugely expensive. If a CD were wanted I could always
produce one in adobe pdf format using my(well work's really) new copy of
Adobe Acrobat. The pdf files could also be made available via the web. Maybe
people would like to add writing to their work on the i-zone gallery, I've
thought about doing this in a way that each person could upload their own
comments to the gallery..personalise it... kind of "my i-zone
gallery".....although it is too big a project for me to undertake now as all
my programming time is taken up with some memory test software I'm writing.
Maybe in a couple of months when all the students have gone and we get a bit
of time to ourselves.
For the moment though people could just send writing on their place to the
list and include URL's just like a couple have already done...it's
interesting to find out about each other's locations. When I have time I'd
like to write a bit about Stoke-on-Trent, it has a rich history and is
single-handedly responsible for producing all the British pottery you've
ever heard of Wedgewood, Spode, Minton, Royal Doulton...all produced in
Stoke. Also other things the writer Arnold Bennett, footballer Stanley
Matthews who died recently, the captain of the Titanic, Reginald Mitchell
who invented the Spitfire...not bad for a place that a lot of people(even in
England) have never heard of.

This site has nice photos of Stoke places in the Photo History section,
there's not all that much Stoke stuff on the web but this is pretty good.
Oh I almost forgot that my favourite snippet of local history is that Jorge
Luis Borges maternal grandmother was from Hanley which is where I live. I
know it's a pretty feeble connection to Borges but at least it's a
connection ;-)
Also what I meant to say was that I'm quite happy to host any place
writings/photos etc.
cheers,
Sol.
