I'll start:

One of my favorite places I have been is the Madonna Inn

in San Luis Obispo, CA, probably the nicest town anywhere

My wife and I got married in SLO at her brother's house and spent the night
at the Inn. Each room has a different theme and is decorated to an
intoxicating degree. Our room was called "Rock Bottom" and had stone floors,
ceilings and walls. The shower was a waterfall in a stone alcove in the
bathroom.

The dining room is neon pink with giant gold filigree chandeliers and I had
the best steak ever. An old time dance band was playing in the adjacent
ballroom so we got to dance the night away in this incredible environment.

If you are in there area, I highly suggest a visit. We were there around the
holidays, so it was dolled up for Christmas, making even more intense. It is
almost tacky, execpt the detail and depth of the decoration transcend any
sense of tackiness.

The town aroud it is fantatstic. on one side is the ocean, with sea lions
and all, on the other side the hills. Morro Bay, with its gigantic Magritte
style rock is right near by.
