Hi Sol, I was with you

>Of course the point may be that anti-art only works upon the forces of

>appreciate Manzoni and, for example, Titian as art because they are both
>creative individuals whose creative products I am viewing and enjoying in
>the manner in which they have intended me to view them.

until this point. I know from my experience as an artist that a viewer
rarely gets out of my art what I think they should get, or what I was
intending to convey. And this is good thing, it means the art is evocative
and plants seeds in the viewers mind and they spent time considering what it
means. (or that I'm not a very good artist. I'll opt to believe the former)
Good art happens whens it makes someone form an opinion on it. Really good
art happens when repeated veiwings make you change your mind.

>I think this is
>because I do not have particularly conservative tastes. A more conservative
>art audience may feel the need to understand Manzoni in terms of anti-art
>because otherwise they have difficulty evaluating the aesthetic aspects of
>his work (i.e. they consider it devoid of any aesthetic value).

to me, having a conservative taste in art would be wanting to get the right
answer to the art question posed before you. A truly conservative art
audiance would just slough something like Manzoni off as "that's not art"
which is a different sentiment than "anti-art". My experience with this type
of crowd is that their art entertainment comes from not taking in and
exploring art but categorizing and dismissing/approving of individual
pieces/artists. Which is OK, if that's what you want to do with your time.
And from the insights you have posted to the list in the past, I know this
ain't you.

I don't mean this as dig at all, Sol, its just that statement made me think
when I read it. so, hey! good art happened!

Best regards,
Alex
