Carol, No, all this is supposed to be "fun," you see. It's like a carnival for the military and their fans. Also, bear in mind that Manhattan is a fairly narrow island, it wouldn't take a fighter jet more than 8 seconds to fly across it's width.
No foolin,' people are coming in from all around to see these ships and talk to the navy and airforce guys. It probably is kinda fun for the sailors and aviators who get to kill a week in NYC and be the center of all sorts of strange admiration. They do look kinda cute in their fancy dress sailor suits. Some fun. M Also: I got my really swell address book a few days ago. It's by Norman Sherfield and has the flatest dog I've ever seen. One of the inner covers has what looks to me like a crudely drawn veve for Erzulie (a Voudoun goddess). And that's a good thing. Yep. Lot's of snatzo zap appeal from Norman. (Really satisfying tape overlays too.) ---------- >From: Carol Starr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: FLUXLIST: Re:Artist/Fluxlist? >Date: Wed, May 22, 2002, 9:19 PM > > hi meryl, > > it must be very difficult in new york right now with all the 'security' scare > tactics and the government showing off its muscle. why i wonder are they flying > inland so much over the flatiron building, after all the fleet is in the water. i > think there is a plan to set people on edge as much as possible so that more and > more of our rights disappear 'for our own good'. it is a tragedy. > > bests, carol > > meryl wrote: > >> It's funny (or maybe it's not), but it's "Fleet week" here in NYC (that >> means that these huge warships and carriers and suchlike are all docked here >> for a week).
