Well, what would happen if you performed the two pieces one after the other without a break?
4'33" followed by 0'00" Would you still end up with 4'33"? - or if you followed 4'33" with Ligeti's 0'00" rather than Cage's. How would you be able to tell the difference? Suppose you composed a piece called (minus) 1'47" - in honour of Cage. But then performed it directly after Cage's work. Would this produce a new work called 2'46"? Hmmm
