Dad, If Sol's solution doesn't help, you can rescue data by removing your hard drive and temporarily installing it as 2nd hard drive in a working computer. Just copy your files to the working computer's hard drive and burn them to a CD. You can then reformat your original drive in your own PC and start again from scratch.
