It should not matter if the table lacks a spatial column.
If you use the import feature type definitions function and specify the database, schema and such you at least see a list of tables, select one and create an object in the workbencjh with it.
In the destination attributes you can specify a spatial column or connect your (raw) data specifiaction to a destination column in a database table.
