I'd also consider getting a 64 bit intel running 64 bit windows XP, if
you want to be on the windows platform.  Then run 32 bit FME on it, the
FME 2006 GB will get access to 4GB of RAM.  (Flavio, that's the reason
for the GB of FME 2006 GB, really, it is, really.  Old Herbie movie
references definitely have nothing to do with it.)

So I'd get fast disk and lots and lots of RAM, at least 4GB, probably
8GB, and then you'd have an FME dream machine I'd think.  Internally our
pro services group run FME on a 64 bit Windows XP box and gets very good
performance and is able to push a lot of data through there much faster
than any other Windows based option currently.
