Hello,
Sorry for the problems you've run into. In terms of the availability of
examples, one of the challenges is that with so many transformations possible
and so many combinations, its difficult to provide an example for every
possible scenario. That said, tiling is a good scenario so we will see if we
can do something for that. As well, the tiler is known to work very well,
so if your shape file output is messed up there is something else going on in
the process, and our support folks
will be pleased to point out what when we receive some data. Lastly, the
SWF writer is a format that is not widely used at all, so I'm sure we could
improve.
In general though, we'd recommend that new users go through the tutorial that
is available from http://www.safe.com/support/downloads/index.php
-- this is a very important first step.
There are also several "movies" that demonstrate how to use various
parts of FME available from http://www.safe.com/support/demos/index.php,
including dataset and feature type fanout. These all help you "think
as FME" in approaching problems and are musts to begin the process of
understanding FME.
It does take some work up front, but many have found the effort worth
while. Good luck!
Dale

Thanks for your offer. I wrote directly to Safe and sent them a
sample. The swf writer does an equally poor job of creating the
tiles. I'm about done with all of it...
