I think this is one of the places where I have read about the security improvements in Internet Explorer 6 and the advisability to upgrade. One word of caution from our experience. I did upgrade both my home and work computers, with no problems I am aware of. However, when we upgraded a second computer at my workplace we had disastrous results.
The computer technician who just spent four hours getting her machine running again, has said that he has seen several machines misbehave when IE6 is installed. In our particular case, it seems that it interacted horrendously with our PeachTree Accounting program (this we concluded after a couple lengthy conversations with the Peachtree people) So if you use PeachTree Accounting on your computer, think twice before upgrading to IE6. Symptoms of our problem were that immediately after installing the upgrade (which you have to do online and it takes an hour) the machine refused to reboot. It would just cycle around and around and around through the restart process (each time running that obnoxious blue scandisk screen that says you can avoid seeing this screen by shutting Windows down properly) until we disconnected it from the power (even turning off the computer didn't stop it for more than a few seconds). This was a brand new machine that has only been in use for three days. For those who like all the details, the machine runs on Windows 98, version 2. Whatever you do, be SURE you backup your files before you try the upgrade, (fortunately, we had). -cynthia **Folkschool-list archives are at: <http://www.mint.net/folkschool/helpnet/archives.htm> Sponsored by Pine Tree Folk School ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?a84vzQ.a9gqS3 Or send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
