Good point about warrantees for college.  What I wrote about extended 
warrantees not being worth it for desktops didn't apply when my daughter 
went off to college in Pennsylvania last year.  We got her a Dell 
(refurbished, through their factory store -- a subject worth another 
message thread), with a 3-year on-site warrantee.  The extra money was well 
worth it in parents' peace of mind.
