+1 for straight git, though I don't run any Microsoft software myself.

I also used git-svn to get my copy of idst, btw.

I think it would be preferrable for one central place to mirror using
git-svn, and the other git users cloning from that place.  Running
git-svn initially takes quite some time as it has to recreate every
commit.  Running git-clone is a finger snap in comparison.
