I'm sure Tesla's discoveries too will in the future be made, patented,
and PR'ed before their commercialization.

It seems to me that's all you can expect from a flock of sheeps under
wolf pressure.

The black swans make the discoveries, most sheeps don't understand,
wolves understand but it's not in their "best" interest so they eat any
sheep that shows some understanding and interest.  Eventually
environmental pressure overcome the fear and wolves let some sheep
"rediscover" what is needed to survive.
