Yes, I have tried static pdf files via https in IE. works fine.If I understand correctly, the problem has something to do with a caching in https mode, so you should play with cache control, for example, you could try connect to the server by ssh client and see which http headers the server returns along with a static pdf and then set the same headers in a servlet.
