One possibility is that your printer is substituting fonts. If your printer's fonts are very different from those specified in the PDF, the change can be very noticeable (and often very unattractive). If your printer has a setting to not substitute, try that. If the printer has such a setting, it will (usually) treat all the text as graphics, which will adversely effect speed, but you may get the output you want.
